House Spoilers: Jennifer Morrison is Leaving House

Yesterday, a lot of confirmed reports were on the internet that Jennifer Morrison is leaving House.  It's a bit frustrating because Chase and Cameron are back on the diagnostic team.  Suddenly this news of Morrison saying goodbye to the show will leave us with seeing the two together on a temporary basis only.  Though Chase will not leave the show, I mean, I couldn't imagine them not together.  I hope she will still do some guest appearances still since she's always welcome to work on the show.

Here are the news on Ausiello Files and  E-Online with Kristin.

What is sad is that she's not quitting and she needs to leave the show because the story line asks for it??  Well, let's leave it to the masters of House, and see what the domino effect of their decisions is.  From my previous posts, we now know that Morrison will be axed from the show instead of Wilde or Jacobson and this will be the big predicament between Chase and Cameron as newly weds and professional workmates.  It remains to be seen if the story line will really justify Cameron leaving the show.  I'm really sad about this, what do you say Chameron, Hameron, and House fans?

House Spoilers: Thank God, Laurie is Not Quitting House

A few weeks back before the Season 6 premiere, the internet was flooded by news that Hugh Laurie is quitting House because his limping leg is actually causing him some real life injury.  I didn't blog about it because it didn't feel right for a House fan.  I love House and I was wishing the news weren't true.  I'm glad that days after the news broke, another came in putting that rumor to stop.  Here is the story by World Entertainment News Network:

British actor Hugh Laurie has shot down reports he's considering quitting the hit medical show House after allegedly developing a real-life hip injury from his character's limp.

Laurie plays grumpy protagonist Dr. Gregory House on the TV drama and his character uses a cane to walk.

But the fake injury has started to cause Laurie real pain, and he recently sparked rumors he was prepared to sacrifice his job for the sake of his health.

He said, "The show might last through to series seven, eight or nine but I don't know if I will because I'm starting to lose my knees. It's a lot of hip work. There are things going badly wrong."

However, Laurie, 50, insists he's not quite ready to hang up his stethoscope after six seasons as Dr. House.

His representative assures fans reports of his retirement are "not true" and laughs off claims of his hip trouble, branding them "hysterical".

House Spoilers: "Epic Fail" Sneak Peeks

Look at these videos showing the next episode "Epic Fail" on Monday Sept. 28.  House will be back at Princeton-Plainsboro and will he be the same House that we know of?  Will there be a change in his behavior now that he has learned to acknowledge his failures and talk more about his feelings to the people that surround him?  I'm sure you will like these videos.

Canadian Promo of "Epic Fail" from SpoilerTV

Three sneak peeks from SpoilerTV on "Epic Fail"

I definitely love the one where House apologized.  I mean, that is something new from Mayfield Park Psychiatric Hospital, right?  It makes me wanna cry.

House Spoilers: "Broken" Recap

"Broken" was worth the wait and the anticipation of seeing House in his journey to discovering more of himself.  Acknowledging his dilemma and accepting treatment after seeing the reality of his failures amidst his successes.  It is really the best episode for me because it felt like House was watching himself from the outside, looking in.

Here is a recap with comments by SpoilerTV.  Lengthy, but very interesting to read.

House Spoilers: Wilson Moves On

Will Wilson find another love interest after Amber?  I hope so.  Let's see what Michael Ausiello at EW.com has to say.

Wilson will at long last exorcise the ghost of ex-girlfriend Amber this season on House. According to executive producer Katie Jacobs, Robert Sean Leonard’s long-grieving alter ego will sever his final tie to Amber by year’s end.

“Wilson is still living in Amber’s apartment,” Jacobs points out. “And we said to ourselves, ‘How long can he live in the shadow of that relationship?’”

Apparently about a year-and-a-half, since, per Jacobs, “He’s actually going to move out of Amber’s apartment and into a new place way down the line in episode 8 or 9.”

Where does this leave House, who beginning next week starts crashing with his BFF? In what will no doubt be a boon to the burgeoning Hilson movement, Jacobs says they’ll get a new pad together.

Reaction? Happy Wilson is moving on? Even happier House and Wilson are making their living arrangement (presumably) permanent?

House Spoilers: Hugh Laurie's Spoiler TV Interview

Hugh Laurie fans, watch this . . . from Fox

House Spoilers: Omar Epps at the Emmys 2009

From Michael Ausiello at Ew.com, this is an interview with Omar Epps, who plays the role Foreman. Enjoy!!

House Spoilers: Olivia Wilde at the Emmys 2009

I love how Olivia Wilde looks. Her gown really captured the admiration of a lot of people. Michael Ausiello of Ew.com was able to talk to David Shore and Olivia Wilde about House Season 6. Though Thirteen's fellowship will expire, we now learn that she is going to stay. It's really too sunny and joyous for the start of Season 6 that news such as people leaving the show is just inappropriate. Enjoy this video from Ausiello!!

House Spoilers: Lisa Edelstein at the Emmys 2009

Michael Ausiello of Ew.com had the chance to get an interesting chat with Lisa Edelstein during the Emmys. She revealed a "true love" between Cuddy and House. I hope we see that in the future episodes. Cheers to House!! because for me, it's the ultimate winner in my heart. I hope you feel the same way too.

There are few things in life I look forward to more than my annual Emmy red carpet run-in with the inimitable Lisa Edelstein. (Don’t judge me.) And this year’s encounter did not disappoint. Not only did Ms. E take her strongest pro-Huddy position to date, but she defended Cuddy’s right to “branch out” while Dr. Crabbypants gets his act together, and then ended the interview by essentially calling me a hypocrite! What’s not to love? See for yourself after the jump.

House Spoilers: House Season 6 Ep 2 "Epic Fail" Promo

Now here it is, next Monday's episode on House, M. D. - "Epic Fail". Come back for more of these spoiler videos. =)

House Spoilers: Chase is Back in Action!

Another spoiler video by Korbi Ghosh on Zap2It's Korbi TV. Jesse Spencer was asked about his involvement in Season 6 as Chase. He revealed that a medical malpractice was going to happen, it may not be him whose directly involved. But one character will be. I'm excited to know who that is. So, here is Korbi's article:

It's been a couple seasons since Chase and Cameron were part of the full-time fold on "House," but with the good doctor in a mental institution and Kutner, you know, dead and all, C&C will step in to pick up the slack at Princeton Plainsboro in season 6.

Excited?

Tell me, are you more pumped about that ...or about the fact that Jesse Spencer is telling me all about it in the clip below and he is so cute, you'll smile the whole way through?

Chase!
To season 6.

House Spoilers: David Shore During the Season Premiere

Korbi Ghosh of Zap2It's KorbiTV caught David Shore during the Season Premiere of "Broken".  House starts today!  Here is the full story:

This was my second one-on-one interview with "House" executive producer, David Shore, regarding tonight's season premiere -- I think the first one went far better -- but we're touching on a couple new things: Was there any concern about doing a two-hour opener without the rest of the regular cast? Why did they go there? And will we see House differently after what he goes through behind the walls of this mental institution?

For the record, you should know that though Cuddy, Cameron, Chase, Foreman, Taub and Thirteen are totally M.I.A. tonight, this TV movie of sorts is so worth watching. The writing is fantastic, House is funny as hell right from the start (well, once he gets past his night sweats) and I'm so curious to hear what you think of the romantic relationship that forms between him and Franka Potente's character.

So, yes, please watch tonight and then come back and comment your thoughts...

House Spoilers: Some Behind the Scenes Footage of "Broken"

For fans who already saw the two-hour premiere, and for those who haven't, I found a slideshow of the making of "Broken" with audio voice-over.  I just want to share this with you, this is the link for the slideshow.

It's cool how they were able to do the prep for the set of "Broken".  And by the way, there are reviews on my previous posts that you might want to read.

House Spoilers: How About Cuddy Sleeping with Somebody Else?

TV Guide has an interview on Lisa Edelstein about House's New Season. They talked about how Cuddy should also sleep with somebody else. Interesting. . . here it is

The two-hour Season 6 premiere finds House confined to the mental institution we saw him walking into in the final moments of last season. If you're a fan of Hugh Laurie's cantankerous doc, you'll certainly be happy with the premiere, as he and Wilson (he's in one quick scene) are the only main characters to make an appearance. "It was daunting, I was daunted and I still am," Laurie told TVGuide.com about House's solo flight. "It was a big thing to take on for everybody, to set it in a completely different world, with a completely different cast of characters. A lot of people have taken a lot of risks with this. If nothing else, it's exciting."

In the meantime, TVGuide.com turned to Laurie's co-star Lisa Edelstein to find up what's coming up on this season of House. She reveals what the hospital is like without House, who might give Cuddy a new romantic distraction and what she thinks is the ultimate endgame for "Huddy."

TVGuide.com: Fans were pretty upset with the season finale because the House and Cuddy love scene they've been waiting for was actually a hallucination.
Lisa Edelstein: The thing that I thought was good news about it is that there's only so far we can take it on the show before you change the dynamic, so the fact is, we kind of got a freebie in, because ultimately it can't really be that successful because that's not what House is about. The more time you eke out of the opportunity to just explore two people who have no relationship skills, the more we can play around. I get to be a virgin another time.

TVGuide.com: Was it awkward shooting those physical scenes with Hugh Laurie after having worked with him for so long?
Edelstein: Not for me. I wasn't awkward. Hugh kept saying how odd it was at the Paley Festival, but I'm not married, so there's no issue for me. I think Hugh is awesome, we're great friends and I love kissing, so why wouldn't I love kissing Hugh Laurie?

TVGuide.com: How will the show evolve this season?
Edelstein: The beginning of this season is really about House trying to find a sense of recovery from himself. He's most likely doomed to fail in that regard, but that's where we're at right now in terms of what's happening in the season.

TVGuide.com: House is like a rock for everyone in the hospital. How will that change now that he's not around?
Edelstein: The team is particularly insecure. Even though they all know they're smart, nobody feels quite as smart as House. So there's a lot of second-guessing going on on the team. When you have such an overbearing father, in a sense, it's really hard to know when you can think for yourself. Learning how to think on your own two feet is a challenge when somebody is making all the decisions for you. They're all kind of faced with that.

TVGuide.com: Foreman is taking over the diagnostics department in House's absence. How does he handle the new job?
Edelstein: He's the one that demanded that position, by the way. She didn't hand it to him. He demanded it. I think she respected that, but then she's just like, 'Step up then; this is what you want to do.' He doesn't handle it so well. In trying to be the best boss he can be, he actually really screws it up.

TVGuide.com: What does Cuddy get to do this season that we haven't seen in the past?
Edelstein: This year, Cuddy is really trying to step out a little bit and get her own life and a love life and try not to be so down and up with House, which of course will probably make him go for her even more. I think there's a lot of exploration going on with that. She should get to sleep with somebody else too. All's fair in love and war. Damn it, why don't I get any love scenes with anybody else? Every once in a while, somebody shoves their tongue down your throat that you're not happy about.

TVGuide.com: What would your ideal ending for House and Cuddy be?
Edelstein: I'm not into endings because I don't think that's what life is. It's not like Lost, where they're going to get back to the island or everything is going to become clear at episode 17. I think life goes on for everybody. Whenever the show ends, it seems like there's a chance that they might try, although the hope is very dismal for it to work. The complicated dance that they do kind of goes on forever. I would imagine [that] to be the most honest. To some extent, if you just surrender to it and let it be what it is, good and bad and ugly, that's a beautiful thing.

Wow, I wonder what happens next with these two characters living a life of their own and then getting back together?  That would be really exciting because they won't lose their identities.  At least here, we know from Lisa Edelstein some details about the team, Foreman, and her chance of having somebody like House did.

House Spoilers: Cast of House Previews Monday's Season Premiere

From Fox All Access, Hugh Laurie together with some of the stars (Jesse Spencer, Omar Epps, Robert Sean Leonard, Olivia Wilde) were interviewed at the ArcLight Cinerama Dome in Hollywood during the Preview of the Season Premiere. Katie Jacobs and David Shore were also there to share some insights regarding the show. They have yet to see the reaction of the people with the season premiere. But generally they think that it was really amazing, different, and they hope the people will like their work. I haven't seen it, but I trust the people behind the show, including the actors. I know that "Broken" will leave a legacy to the TV industry.

Will you be watching?

Tomorrow night is going to be a different night for all of us House fans. =)

House Spoilers: 7 Sneak Peeks for Episode 6.01 - Broken

From SpoilerTV, here are the 7 sneak preview of Monday's episode "Broken"

Season Premiere: House Negotiates

Season Premiere: House Has a Goal

Season Premiere: House Has a Roomie

Season Premiere: Group Therapy

Season Premiere: House Plays Dr.

Season Premiere: Battle of Wills

Season Premiere: Friendly Advice

House Spoilers: Alvie (House's Roommate) Speaks

Lisa Chambers at TV Guide Magazine was able to get in touch with Lin-Manuel Miranda who plays House's roommate.  He is Alvie, a talkative crazy roommate who in real life is a great composer, lyricist, and actor.  Here it is:

If painfully detoxing from Vicodin while locked up in a mental institution isn’t enough to make Greg House even more sour than usual, in the House season premiere (Monday, 9/21, 8.7c, Fox), he also has to put up with a roommate so manic he puts Roger Rabbit to shame. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the composer, lyricist and actor behind Broadway’s Tony-winning "In The Heights," plays the garrulous gadfly who bunks with House. We talked with him by phone from his vacation in Greece about his first big TV gig and working with Hugh Laurie.

How did the House job come about?
[Executive producer] Katie Jacobs came to see “In the Heights” in New York, and she saw me in it, and told me that once they realized House was going to be going to a mental facility she thought of me. I don’t know if that’s good or bad [Laughs], but they basically called my manager and said, “We’ve written a part for him.” And I said yes, script unseen.

Were you a fan of the show?
I’m a huge House fan. I’m a huge Hugh Laurie fan, since the days of Black Adder. I got obsessed with Black Adder in college, like all of my British-comedy nerd friends. So it was a no-brainer! I had no idea what was in store, I just said yes.

When you saw what your character, Alvie, was like, did it give you pause—because he’s a little bit annoying?
No, not at all. He is a little bit annoying and incredibly manic, but beneath the manic-ness he’s a real sweetheart. I was very touched when I read it.

Did you do anything to prepare for the role?
There wasn’t time to do much research, although what we did do—which never happens, and Hugh kept turning to me and saying, “We’ve never done this!”—is we had a solid week of rehearsal before we shot the two-hour season premiere. I got a whole week to just play with Hugh and the other inmates and Katie in the room, and that was a real gift.

Had you met Hugh Laurie before?
No, I met him the day we read the first script and basically the entire thing was like a master class in acting. Mentally I took notes and just did what I could.

Is he a musical fan? Was he familiar with your work?
Definitely a musical fan. I don’t know if people know, I think he has a lot of musical input on the show as well. He talked a lot about music for specific moments in the scenes.

You wrote “In the Heights,” and the Spanish-language dialogue for the Broadway revival of “West Side Story.” There’s a scene in the House premiere where music plays a major role—did you write any lyrics for that?
Basically no, they wrote it. I added a couple of internal rhymes here and there. I think that was the hardest part for me. You know, I’m in this hip-hop group called Freestyle Love Supreme, where we literally do these improvised hip-hop shows: We get a word from the audience and we freestyle the rest of it. So pretending that I didn’t have a rhyme handy was the hardest thing I had to do the whole House shoot. As soon as they would yell cut I’d say 50 rhymes that I wasn’t allowed to say.

Hugh gets in on the musical action a little bit too, and of course we’ve seen him play the piano on the show. How did he do?
He did great! He’s an incredible musician, there’s nothing I could teach Hugh Laurie at all.

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working on my tan! House was my summer vacation. It’s so different from doing eight shows a week [on Broadway]. But I am working with Dreamworks Animation on an animated musical and writing the score for that, and then I’m working on this hip-hop concept album about the life of Alexander Hamilton. Lord [Andrew] Webber wrote a rock musical about Jesus, I’m writing a rap album about Alexander Hamilton!

House Spoilers: Olivia Wilde Speaks

Olivia Wilde was caught by Entertainment Weekly at the pre-Emmy party and here is a segment of the report:

A word of caution to all you Thirteen haters out there: Olivia Wilde says this could be the year you start warming up to her icy House alter ego. Or not. Either way, she takes the polarizing response to her character as a compliment, adding, “I’d rather they hate me or love me than feel totally ambivalent.” This could all be a moot point come May when Thirteen’s three-year fellowship expires. For Wilde’s take on that, check out my complete interview with her from Entertainment Weekly’s pre-Emmy party after the jump…

House Spoilers: Hilson Continues On

Wow, Katie Jacobs, the Executive Producer of House, revealed that the Hilson or Wilson and House's friendship and the predicament of House will boil down to the two living with each other.  Well, that's what friends are for, right?

Jacobs also talks about how she and the whole team of "Broken" worked and enjoyed doing the season premiere.  She admitted that it wasn't easy to delve into the mind of Dr. House and share that to everyone in just 2 hours.  But magnificently, all of the hardwork has paid off.  I admire all the people responsible for this.  I think what is remarkable is that for 5 years that House, M.D. played on TV, this concept will now bring Season 6 into new heights.  Which means more upcoming seasons in the future, right?  Watch this video of Katie Jacobs and Korbi TV of Zap2It!

House Spoilers: Hugh Laurie and His Cute and Hot Tie

Watch this video from Korbi TV of Zap2It and see Hugh Laurie's cute and hot tie.  He looks dashing while talking about the movie-like 2-hour TV premiere.  Working with new actors in "Broken" was new for him but he said that the chemistry was great!  They got closer to each other in filming this, giving everyone a one of a kind experience.

House Spoilers: Advance Review of "Broken"

An advance review of Broken was released by IGN Entertainment and here it goes:

House: "Broken" Review
They didn't break me. I am broken.
by James Chamberlin

September 17, 2009 - Advance Review: Gregory House's (Hugh Laurie) voluntary admission into a psychiatric hospital was a fitting end to season five. Those delusions had him imagining all sorts of things and now it's time for House to get better - get off the Vicodin and get his life back on track. After seeing the season six premiere, I'm honestly happy to see that things may be improving for House, not just the character, but the show as well.

After going through a painful withdrawal (as opposed to that lame withdrawal shown in season five), House is ready to check himself out of the hospital, but not going through all of the therapy sessions means he wouldn't be allowed to practice medicine. He needs the attending physician to write a letter to the state recommending House be permitted to resume his job.

Regular viewers are well accustomed to House's antics. He'll use every ploy imaginable to get what he wants. He doesn't have a problem with breaking a few rules or hurting some feelings in order to reach the outcome which he desires. Unable to practice medicine means it's time to do whatever it takes to get Dr. Darryl Nolan (Andre Braugher) to write that letter. True to form, House tries everything in the book.

The antisocial House begrudgingly finds a friend in his roommate Alvie (Lin-Manuel Miranda). They're quite the odd couple. House isn't about to make too many friends. He's far too judgmental to befriend people with this many problems.

As time passes, House begins to change. House has been a frustrating character to watch over the previous five seasons because he really never changed for the good. Those hoping to see an entirely new person will be disappointed, but House's journey is a real joy to watch. He goes through an awful lot in this episode.

The two-hour season premiere feels more like a movie than a TV show. It's long and a little slow in portions, but is well worth the time. With very few good dramas on this summer (it's all reality TV with a few exceptions), it's been a while since I've seen an emotional TV show. "Broken" is a very well produced and written episode. – so much so that I didn't miss Princeton-Plainsboro one bit and I'm sure many of you will agree after seeing the episode.

Two days more and all anticipation and longing for a good TV show will be over.  Now we have a reason to stay up late watching TV on Mondays.  We won't say, "I don't like Mondays" anymore.  Instead, we'll say "Thank God for Mondays".

House Spoilers: House Returns on Monday

Next week will be the most awaited week in 2009.  A lot of TV shows will be airing next week and on Monday, the evening will be an extraordinary night for all of us.   Here is The Denver Post's view on the season premiere of House:

House (Hugh Laurie), left, and Alvie (Lin-Manuel Miranda) attend a group-therapy session in the two hour season premiere Monday. (Fox )

One of TV's best veteran series is about to offer one of the year's finest season premieres: When "House" rejoins the Fox slate Monday, at 7 p.m. on KDVR-Channel 31, it's a memorable return.

A two-hour movielike launch of the new season finds the angry, obnoxious and Vicodin-addicted doctor in a mental institution, beginning detox.
These two hours are sure to be Hugh Laurie's Emmy submission for next year: He's in almost every scene, and he's terrific.

At the end of last season, House had enjoyed a long-awaited sexual liaison with his boss Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein). Except, in a rare TV reversal that actually earned its credibility, that turned out to be a Vicodin-induced hallucination.

House ended up checking himself into Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital, felled by his drug habit on top of traumatic losses (the death of his abusive father, the suicide of one of his proteges, the departure from the hospital of his best friend, Wilson).

In Monday's premiere, House is confronted by two tremendous characters. One is an exceptionally talkative roommate, played by Lin-Manual Miranda (Tony-winning actor and playwright for "In the Heights"). The other is a tough but empathetic doctor who runs the psychiatric facility, played by Andre Braugher ("Homicide: Life in the Street"). The interactions are sharp; the writing is impeccable; the performances magical.

The two hours brilliantly chart House's torment, rebellion, sneaky gaming of the system and grudging submission to the rules at the loony bin. The story even allows House a mature connection to another (female) human being. The premiere delivers an emotional wallop and a satisfying conclusion.

Those of us who felt the series was sidetracked by the insertion of interns into the storyline the past few seasons eagerly anticipate a return to the original focus. The team of doctors Chase, Cameron and Foreman (Jesse Spencer, Jennifer Morrison and Omar Epps) will reunite, and the newly detoxed House will learn to deal with them, perhaps in new ways.

How "cured" can the famously cranky doctor become without derailing the show? The writers know better than to fundamentally alter his nature. The fun will be in watching him fight against his impulses as he pursues his newfound sobriety.

House Spoilers: Future of Taub and Thirteen, Cuddy and Lucas????

Michael Ausiello at Ew.com has some spoilers about Cuddy, Taub and Thirteen.  Seriously, I want Taub and Thirteen to stay after their fellowships.  I have to cross fingers on this because remember that on my previous posts, a fellow doctor will be axed.  Between the two, who will it be?  I'm excited about Cuddy and House seeing each other again.  I hope there will be sparks!

Question: Has it dawned on anyone that Taub and Thirteen’s three-year fellowships are about to end on House? Do you know if the show plans to follow through on that? And, if so, does this mean Peter Jacobson and Olivia Wilde are leaving? —Mindy

Ausiello: It certainly dawned on me. And it dawned on series creator David Shore — at least it did when I reminded him recently. He says he hasn’t figured out what will happen to Taub and Thirteen after their fellowships expire. Luckily, time is on his side. “It won’t be until the end of the season,” he says, adding that it’s not in his nature to gloss over such plot points. “I don’t like those things to be fake-outs.” What do you think? Do you want Taub and Thirteen to stay on? Or are you hoping they opt to seek greener pastures? Cast your votes in the comments section!

Question: Will Cuddy find out that House had real sex with that woman (a.k.a. Franka Potente) while in the asylum? —Gregory

Ausiello:
Not anytime soon, according to Lisa Edelstein. “She doesn’t know about the real girl or the real sex he has in the season premiere,” she says. “So far in scripts I have read she has not acknowledged that she knows. They certainly haven’t discussed it. It might break her heart.” Regardless, Edelstein says the House-Cuddy dynamic “continues to have its ups and downs” this season. “She has to eventually deal with him coming back [to work] and what his role will be and how will she handle him and what kind of state is he coming back in. They have feelings for each other — deeper than colleagues. But who knows if they will ever be right for each other? They never seem to be coming at each other at the same time. We are having fun no matter how we play it. Being at odds and playing off Hugh is great fun. If we ever get together I just don’t want it to seems false or forced, but I trust Katie and David to make the right moves.”

Question: How about a House spoiler? —Jessica

Ausiello: I hear Cuddy will be getting a little action of her own this season. With whom,

you ask? Here’s a clue.

(The last part of Ausiello's answer Here's a clue points to a previous article about Michael Weston, P.I. Lucas Douglas.  Well, well, well)

House Spoilers: Hugh Laurie and House Season 6

Here is Starpulse's interview with Hugh Laurie as they talk about House Season 6 Expectations. This gives us a lot of good things for Season 6 and for understanding House inside the mental institution.  I really admire how Hugh Laurie handles the role of Gregory House.  He is so fit for the role and gives justice to the character he portrays.  I really hope he does get the Emmy's. I will pray that they recognize him this time.

Q&A: Hugh Laurie Of 'House' Talks Season 6 Expectations, Cuddy Fantasy And More
September 16th, 2009 10:00am EDT

House ended last season with a double twist. At first it seemed like Dr. House and Cuddy finally got together and he'd kicked Vicodin. Then they revealed that their tryst was a hallucination caused by House's Vicodin addiction. The season finale showed House entering a psychiatric institution, which is where the new season will pick him up.

Hugh Laurie gave reporters a preview of House's journey to come over the summer. For years we have been analyzing House's behavior, the actor being the character's de facto defender as his real world spokesperson. The issue of whether his entertainingly vicious banter is justified by his ability to solve rare medical mysteries has been at the heart of the show for its five years and counting.

Now the issue deepens. His painkiller addiction has compromised his sobriety, and if he's not practicing medicine, can he still get away with insulting others? House returns September 21 on Fox.

Starpulse: Did you think it was a bold move at the end of season five to say, "Okay, the Vicodin is having a demonstrable affect on House?" Up until then, we'd been saying he's functional.

Hugh Laurie: Well, once the guy starts hallucinating people and events and conversations and more than conversations, liaisons, let me put it that way, then yes, this is someone who probably should be led gently away from the controls of the aircraft.

It's sort of an answer to the ethical questions that's been so fascinating. Does being a great doctor justify the means of medicating himself?

Right, well, it was one of the lines we had early on. It wasn't the pain killers that were the problem, it was the pain that was the problem. Is it preferable to have someone operating sober but in a condition of enormous physical pain. That's probably not a particularly desirable thing either. It's an interesting question and the line is never really drawn. It's sort of an unknowable thing.

We also debate whether his behavior is justified by his brilliance. Does this threaten that hypothesis?

Well, that's a very good question because certainly at the beginning of the season, that is stripped away from him. He is no longer practicing medicine, he's no longer healing, solving medical problems. So then, without that, who is he and what is he really there for? He has to ask himself that. I'm not saying he's hidden behind that gift but he has certainly used that gift to define his role and define his character, his reason for existing. You take that away and he's forced to ask some pretty hard questions.

Were you disappointed that the love scene with Cuddy proved to be a fantasy?

Well, speaking as an actor, it was real enough. Let me put it that way. Yes, I suppose. As a viewer, I would hope that House would find some genuine comfort at some point, that he would find some connection with another warm body with whom he could travel through this lonely cosmos. It was not to be but it may yet be. It may yet come to pass.

This is great too but I think House and Cuddy are good for each other.

Well, good. Me too, me too.

Does this experience make House bitter or has it humbled him?

The season opener, the two hour story at the beginning of the season is a pretty humbling one. He is laid bare to a considerable degree. Apart from anything else, he's in a place where his biggest single gift, his biggest single reason for living is taken away from him and that is to heal. He's no longer healing, he is the healed. So without that, of course he, like everyone else, is forced to start to examine who he really is and what he's there for because up until that point, he's always had one supreme answer which is he's there to solve medical problems, to cure people.

You're a doctor on TV yet we saw you ride a motorcycle without a helmet on the studio lot.

I didn't realize who I was [meeting]. I just saw a lot of people and I, of course, averted my gaze, which of course you shouldn't do on a motorcycle either. That's probably more dangerous than not wearing a helmet. Of course I would wear a helmet and take every reasonable safety precaution and I would advise young people to do the same.

Will we see House escape from the looney bin?

You guys and the looney bin. It's a psychiatric institution.

Didn't House call it that?

The fictional character, yes. He did but House is damaged. I wouldn't describe him exactly as a role model, either in his vocabulary or behavior, but I take your point. It's funny, because the show House has become associated with NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. We've gotten especially to people being flippant. I'm not saying you were being flippant but terms like looney bin, we start get right sensitive about.

I was only quoting House.

I know, I know, you're absolutely right. You're in the clear. It's my fault.

Will he be regaining his senses and authority this season?

Well, as far as the season goes, I honestly don't know. They tell me about a week after they've told the transport department. That's when I hear.

Do you lose your position?

Yes, I begin the season without a medical license. That is revoked, or suspended rather. It is in the gift of the psychiatrist in charge of my case played by Andre Braugher to decide whether I am sufficiently stable to begin practicing medicine again.

But House wasn't stable to begin with.

That's true, so the zero on the graph is pretty far down that way.

What does he have to do to regain his license?

That, I don't know, because I still don't have it. Four shows in, I still don't have it.

Have they given you some ideas as to when?

No, no idea.

So will he make house calls until then?

He's got a couple of ways around it which I don't want to give away because they are kind of entertaining. Obviously, he will regain his status eventually but at the moment, he's very much on probation.

House seems to have made peace with his flaws. Have you learned from House, the way he's done that?

I would say not, no, but then I wasn't really looking to do that. I would feel like an odd sort of character if I went looking for the fictional characters I was playing to teach me things. That seems to be the wrong way around. I would hope it would work the other way around, I hope.

But he seems like he's okay with who he is.

I'm not sure about that. I think there's a front. There's a façade and he is tough enough to make as if that's the case but I'm not sure it is all the time. I think he is assailed by the same sorts of doubts that assail us all.

Is House a good patient in the institution?

House, as you might probably have guessed, does not go willingly. No, he's not a particularly bitable character and does not cooperate very easily.

Are his insults more vicious to his handlers than they've been to his patients?

I'd say it's neck and neck.

Do any particularly clever ones stand out to you?

I don't remember lines. I honestly can't remember the lines when I'm standing in front of the camera, never mind 10 hours later, 10 days later.

Are the makeout scenes with Franka Potente hallucinatory too or are they real?

You mean did I actually shoot them or did I imagine that I shot them? No, with Franka's character, that is real. That is real.

What do you watch on TV?

Lots of things but I'm not a list maker. I don't want to be quoted with lists of things but there are lots of good things.

Do you think it's a good time for television?

Yeah, I do. Although, that's always a very hard question to answer because so much of it is related to one's own aging process. What is to me a Golden Age of television was actually a Golden Age of me, that's to say when I was 15. So everything looked great at 15. If I was to see those same shows now, I would probably look at them differently. At least I hope I would.

Could you have portrayed House as a Brit? Was there ever any discussion in the beginning?

There was a discussion. It lasted for about 15 seconds. It was never really explained to me at the time because I was the hired help. My guess is that they decided that here was a character who was sufficiently alien, problematic. If they made him foreign as well as an acerbic drug addict, maybe the American public would actually go, "Hold on a second, I don't want this guy in my home." I don't know, maybe that was their thinking but that's me and it's merely a guess.
