Seems everyone in the Cuddy family wants to meet the good doctor's boyfriend. Wouldn't you? Following news that Candice Bergen will arrive on House in January as Cuddy's mom, Arlene, comes word that actress Paula Marshall has just been cast as Cuddy's sister, Lucinda.

"Cuddy's in a relationship now and the boyfriend's meeting the family," explains executive producer David Shore, who hints at some secrecy involving Lucinda's presence. Paula, a familiar face on TV since the mid '90s, is probably best known for her roles on Gary Unmarried, Californication and Nip/Tuck. She is also expected to arrive in January.

As for as-yet-unseen members of Dr. House's family paying a visit — like Mr. Grumpy's biological father — Shore says "that's something we talk about on a regular basis," but nothing's on the map just yet. 

House Spoilers: Thirteen Will Definitely Return to "House"

EW.com has news that Olivia Wilde who plays the role of Thirteen, will be back on "House" this season.  Read on to find out more about her coming back to the diagnostic team.

Olivia Wilde — aka the beloved Thirteen — has some good news for House fans: She will definitely return to the Fox drama this season! Wilde took a leave of absence this fall to shoot a starring role in the big-budget sci-fi Western Cowboys and Aliens but confirms to EW that her comeback is already in the works.

“I am coming back to House. This season, as a matter of fact. It is a done deal,” Wilde told EW while attending the 19th Annual BAFTA LA Britannia Awards Thursday in Los Angeles. “I have been really lucky this year to be offered all these great film opportunities and I was also blessed to have a job in TV that really worked with me to get me to a place where I could do those films and not miss those opportunities like Tron.

“They have it all worked out and the viewers will find out where she went and why she left,” Wilde continued.  “I think it is an interesting progression for her. Thirteen has been through a lot so it has to be escalated.  She has Huntington’s. She had a brain tumor and went blind. She had a bad breakup. She’s sexually ambiguous.  She had problems with drugs. I thought, `What else can (creator) David Shore possibly come up with?’ They had to take it to a whole new level. They are really taking some big risks this year, which is exciting.”

Until then, Wilde said she’s working on the body-swapping comedy The Change Up with Ryan Reynolds, Leslie Mann and Jason Bateman. “We’re shooting in Atlanta. It is so boring and dull. No one laughs. We just sit around and cry all day. [Laughs]. No, it is absolutely the funniest job.” — With reporting from Carrie Bell

According to series creator David Shore, Olivia Wilde—who took a leave of absence this fall to shoot a starring role in the big-budget sci-fi Western Cowboys and Aliens—will be gone for more than just a handful of episodes.

“It’s going to be a while unfortunately,” sighs series creator David Shore. “We love her but it is going to be a while. It’s going to be this season, but well into this season.”

The news comes as Wilde’s movie career is heating up big-time. The actress has four films in the pipeline (Cowboys and Aliens included), and recently signed a deal to join Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman in the body-swapping comedy The Change Up.

Shore says Wilde’s Change Up shooting schedule won’t further delay her return to Princeton Plainsboro. “She called us up and said she wanted to do [The Change Up],” he explains. “And it just so happened that what we had worked out storyline-wise allowed her a couple of extra episodes [off]. So that movie just filled in the gap. There were no further adjustments to her schedule as a result of that.”

Here is what David Shore has for us on the seventh season of "House".  The site thestar.com reveals to us:

This isn't one of those bait-and-switch dream sequences, promises House creator and executive producer David Shore.

"He and Cuddy have a relationship," says Shore. "It is real. The question is, how will House react to the situation? Will he handle it? Can he handle it?"

Shore was speaking at the Fox press tour party this week at the Santa Monica Pier. His star, Laurie, was not at the event, but Edelstein was.

"It's been fun so far, we've shot about four (new episodes)," says the actress.

Edelstein feels the series, now in its seventh season, has reached the point where House and Cuddy "can't not do it anymore."

She acknowledges that this is a critical point in the series. Usually hour-long dramas avoid resolving the will-they, won't-they storyline until the very last episode. When David and Maddie got together on the late ’80s detective drama Moonlighting, for example, many though the show had "jumped the shark."

Hart Hanson, the Canadian-born creator of Bones, has flirted with putting his two appealing leads together (David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel) but isn't ready to have them seal the deal yet.

When asked about it in the past, Laurie has had reservations about House and Cuddy as a couple, feeling his character is on a long, slow, torturous path to enlightenment and, up till now, did not have the courage to seize the day and engage in any kind of serious relationship.

Edelstein says viewers should do what she does and trust Shore to boldly go where House has never gone before.

"The great thing about David's writing is he explores head-on all the things you worry about as a viewer," she says. "I love that he has managed to write those problems in."

Shore, who jokes that he is "the second most successful writer from London, Ontario" (deferring to two-time Academy Award winner Paul Haggis), says that House won't suddenly become a whole new man.

"The big thing is that the show is still the show, and House is still House," he says.

He acknowledged not wanting to explore the two leads as a couple in the past because "it changes everything," he says. "So we put it off, but it seems right now."

It also seemed time to change the show's opening titles. House has seen several cast changes over the years, with one character, Kutner, killed off after the actor who played him, Kal Penn, left to work for the Obama White House (he has since jumped back into filmmaking, working on another Harold & Kumar movie).

This season, "Thirteen" (Olivia Wilde) will take a leave of absence; a new medical student, played by Joan of Arcadia star Amber Tamblyn, has been added to the cast.

Besides overseeing House, Shore has been working on a revival of the classic ’70s series The Rockford Files, which has yet to be picked up. The executive producer insists that project is still alive, with colleagues taking another run at reviving it.

House is one of the most popular scripted dramas on both sides of the border. In Canada on Global, it seemed to benefit the most from the introduction of BBM Canada’s Portable People Meters last September, returning with more than 4.2 million viewers.

"I've heard that," says Shore. "I think that’s because of all my friends and family in Canada."

By now we're all familiar with that photo of House and Cuddy (Hugh Laurie and Lisa Edelstein) cozying it up on the beach, taken earlier this summer, but House creator and executive producer David Shore says we shouldn't read too much into the image. "That picture was so deceptive. It's not going to be lovey-dovey, happily ever after," says Shore. "I think the picture is taken between takes, of the two of them relaxing."

And though House and Cuddy are making a go of it, rest assured, House is still House. "[The relationship] is not sweet. House doesn't suddenly become happy and domesticated," says Shore. "We do it in a very House-like way. He's still that character that people love and Cuddy is still Cuddy. And they're trying to make a go of it as they are."

Shore and his fellow writers felt they really had no option but to explore a relationship between the two characters. "We'd done the dance long enough," says Shore. "We had fun dancing around it, we had fun playing with the sexual tension, but it was time to move on and explore the actual relationship. So we're having fun with that."

"It's pretty bold," adds Edelstein. "But I really trust David in the way he's steered the ship so far. It doesn't have to work, but it has to be done.  And I think they really love each other. I just don't know if they're capable of maintaining it."

Ausiello: A fellow Trojan tipped me off that Hugh Laurie and Lisa Edelstein were on the USC campus Tuesday night shooting “some Huddy-ness.” Added the anonymous bystander: “They were kissing, hugging, and hand-holding. It was a fangirl’s dream come true. She had on the same outfit as in the beach pictures.” Speaking of those cutesy beach photos, series creator David Shore tells me that all may not be as it seems. “What the image depicts is rather different from what you’re going to experience when you watch the episode,” he reveals. “They’re [at the beach], but it’s not Beach Blanket Bingo.”

 

House Spoilers: Hugh Laurie Writes About His Directorial Job in the "Lockdown" Episode

Hugh Laurie has an article about his first directorial work of art which will air tonight on FOX.  TV Guide Magazine is very lucky to publish the Laurie's article under them.  He is really versatile, a good writer indeed!  Here is the carefully written and artistically composed writeup of Laurie: 

Hugh Laurie Goes Behind the Camera

Physician, direct thyself. That was the offer/challenge/piece of lead pipe they swung at my head, and I knew straightaway I was in trouble.

For six seasons of House, I’ve sat in the passenger seat and complained while long-suffering adults took the wheel. I’ve fiddled with the radio, spilled soda on the gear lever, misread the map, whined about feeling sick, been sick, screamed useless warnings whenever a distant dog looks like he’s thinking of approaching the curb—in short, I have been a complete pain in the neck. As a way of shutting me up, they tossed me the keys and said, “OK, then, you drive.”

What was I to do? If I said no, I’d lose my hard-won complaining rights. If I said yes, who would I complain to?

The script of “Lockdown”—Episode 17 of this season’s House—was written by David Shore, Garrett Lerner, Russel Friend, Eli Attie and Peter Blake. If you’re wondering why there were five writers involved, you will wonder less when you see it. I’m not going to tell you what happens, except to say that there is a Precipitating Event at the beginning that justifies the episode’s title. (Rest assured, it’s not a bomb or a stuck elevator, both proscribed by the House Manual of Plotting.) The event effectively traps four pairs of characters in four separate places, and House himself features in only one of them—which meant that, for six out of the eight shooting days, I could just wear my directing hat. And yes, I actually did have a hat. I also wore my own clothes and carried my own phone, keys, wallet and wristwatch, which was a welcome respite. Actors in costume spend so much of their time unable to communicate, unlock a door, buy a sandwich or know what time they should be doing any of these things that they end up feeling like infant convicts. If that’s a category.

Besides the hat, there was also the question of which accent to wear. I would be directing not as Gregory House but as Hugh Laurie, proud subject of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II—and yet I had spent the preceding six years as an ersatz American. How would my coworkers respond? Would the sound of a British accent rouse some ancient colonial resentment and start them emptying my PG Tips tea bags into the lavatory? It was a chance I’d have to take. When I converse as an American, I am often constrained by the accent to say only what I can say—if I don’t feel sure how to sound the phrase “cream and sugar,” I will just say “black”—and this obviously wouldn’t do for a director. A decision is a decision. Or choice, whichever is easier to say.

Then there was the issue of preparation. In the normal course of events, an incoming director is hired two weeks before shooting begins. The good ones fill this time with careful meditations on design, casting, special effects, narrative arcs and the rest; the less good ones watch Internet porn and steal stationery. Since I was neck-deep acting in Episode 16 right up until my first directing day, neither of these options was available to me, which meant I was hideously, savagely unprepared for the ordeal to come. I also didn’t have enough envelopes.

And all the while, there was the nagging question of how I was going to direct myself. Would I be able to give guidance, instruction, encouragement to myself and then reject those things with my usual sullen bad temper? How would I talk myself out of my own trailer? Could I throw a tantrum with one hand and catch it with the other?

To help me in this task, I asked for, and got, the rare luxury of video playback: a tiny prism in the camera that siphons off just enough light to generate a rough video image of whatever the film lens is capturing, which can be instantly reviewed. It’s a time-consuming device, but it allows an actor/director to see and adjust his own performance, assuming he has the necessary mental equipment to look at himself and make an accurate assessment. I don’t think I used it once.

What saved me—and you will judge for yourselves whether it was really a save, or just compassionate euthanasia—was the skill of the House producers, writers, technicians, designers and, most of all, my fellow actors. For a time I worried that joining the ranks of Management might create some odd tensions among the cast, perhaps put a strain on the comradeship we had built up over the years; in fact, it went completely the other way. I finished my stint as director with an even greater appreciation and affection for the cast of House than I had when I started—which is saying an awful lot.

These actors did things, created moments, found nuggets of tragedy and comedy that I couldn’t possibly have foreseen; they brought energy and good humor and put up with my grating British accent. This is the best cast on television, make no mistake. I’ve watched other casts receive trophies and acclaim but have never doubted that Lisa, Robert, Omar, Jesse, Jennifer, Olivia and Peter could take them all with one hand tied behind their back. (Not that acting with one hand behind your back is especially difficult. Come to think of it, it’s often easier.) The fact they don’t make it look difficult doesn’t mean it isn’t. Ars est celare artem, as some Roman geezer once put it—the art is to conceal the art.

Lastly, I must make special mention of the actor playing the character of Nash, a terminally ill patient who spends his final hours in House’s reluctant company. Many names were bandied about for this role, but when our executive producer, Katie Jacobs, uttered the name David Strathairn, a peaceful certainty descended on the production team. I have watched some of David’s scenes a hundred times in the editing room, and been moved every single time by his astounding skill and honesty. (He is also, by the way, a gentleman.)

So there you have it. I invite you to try your luck with the work of an inexperienced, underprepared foreigner who complained his way into the driver’s seat. Was he saved by his passengers, or did they all hurtle over a cliff in a grisly fireball of destruction? Fasten your safety belts and tune in to Fox, Monday, April 12, at 8.

House Spoilers: Will Watros be Staying on "House" for Long?

For Cynthia Watros' fans, there is a possibility that you'll be able to watch her every Monday nights at "House".  According to Michael Ausiello at EW, the episode with Watros might be shown after April 19 but EP David Shore is already thinking of making her stay for more episodes and even come back for the next season.  Now that there is a slot to fill in with Morrison not returning next season.  Maybe it depends if after her House call the people would like to make her stay around for a couple more episodes.  You know what happened with Michael Weston, right?  A lot has expressed their negative feelings with him not around.  So maybe we'll see what happens after April 19.  Would you like another doctor around Princeton Plainsboro?  What do you think?  I would love to hear your comments on this.

House Spoilers: Huddy Will Happen

A hot news after the Cuddy-centric episode, Michael Ausiello at EW shares with us that EP of "House", David Shore said with conviction that Huddy will happen.  Of course, I am a Huddy fan and I'm so delighted that eventually Cuddy and House will be together in the end.  Here is the good news:

 

The prognosis on Huddy is in, and it’s excellent.

I just hung up with House creator David Shore, and — no beating around the bush here — he promised me, “Eventually, it’s going to happen. This is the thing we’ve been dancing around — even before we knew we were dancing around it. They’re two very flawed people, but they’re two people that are very attracted to each other.

“I’m a Huddy fan, [too],” Shore added. “Just keep watching the show. It’ll happen eventually.”

I can confirm that there was not a single qualifier in that sentence. I listened to the tape three times. Not a single “maybe” or “possibly” in there. Go ahead and reread it; I’ll wait.

Coincidentally, Shore also happens to be in the middle of breaking this season’s final episodes. Could it possibly culminate with real, non-hallucinatory lovemaking? My gut is telling me yes.


 

House Spoilers: A House Spin-off??

How do you feel about a House spin-off?  Who would you want as characters at play?  This is the latest from Michael Ausiello of EW.  Sound-off below for your ideas on this.

The Michael Weston-fronted House spin-off may have been condemned, but Fox remains keen on expanding the franchise. Network president Kevin Reilly tells me the hit’s EPs, David Shore and Katie Jacobs, have a “standing offer” to create another series. “It could be a direct spin-off or a completely new show,” says Reilly. “Ideally, I would love David and Katie to have their own [two-hour block].”

Regarding the duo’s first stab at a House offshoot, the one that would’ve focused on Weston’s private detective, Lucas Douglas, Reilly says they “kind of stuck their toe in the water and just didn’t feel like it worked. The [character] worked [on] House, but [he] didn’t really work as [his] own thing.

“They have really high standards,” he adds. “These are not guys who commercially are going to chase something just to announce they have a spinoff and then figure out the show later on. They’re probably the most thorough producers… I’ve ever worked with.”

For her part, Jacobs is game to try again. “I would like to do a 9 o’clock show,” she says. “Maybe a spin-off or maybe just another show from the two of us.” (Shore is currently shepherding a remake of The Rockford Files for NBC.) One way or another, she’s resigned herself to the fact that a new show is “the only way I seem to be able to penetrate the 9 o’clock hour” now that House is firmly entrenched at 8. “As a producer, you would never pick Mondays at 8. But having said that, the network put [House] there, and it seems to be working so I think they’re smarter about these things than we are. So we’re probably going to stay at 8.”

House Spoilers: House EP David Shore on Morrison-Huddy-Wilson

Shore, who is in many ways a genius and who obviously works very hard to keep the "House" world afloat, seemed just a tiny bit pained when KTV correspondent Marisa Roffman brought up the Jennifer Morrison situation at a recent FOX party.

Will we get resolution for the Cameron-Chase storyline now that Morrison is no longer with the show?, she wanted to know. "I hope so," said Shore, "I've sort of given up on talking about that because I only get in trouble when I talk about it."

But with Morrison returning to "House" for one episode later this season, sources tell me we will absolutely get resolution.

If my intel is correct and Morrison's special ep is the one which Hugh Laurie is directing, then Shore actually shared a little more on what we can expect from the hour: "There's a bit of a lock down in the hospital. It's an interesting story. [There are] several smaller stories in one episode and Hugh's going to direct them."

In fact, this goes along with what I've been told about Morrison's return ep, that an emergency at Princeton Plainsboro traps both employees and patients inside and no one is allowed to leave. The lock down may or may not put a certain former couple in a position where they're alone together for a long period of time.
