Barbara Barnett of BlogCritics was able to get in touch with Production Designer Jeremy Cassells. They talked about the details on what went on behind the scenes of "Broken".
Cassells revealed how they transformed Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital for "Broken". He considered it as one of the most challenging experiences he and his team had ever been into since they worked with House. They made the hospital look modern and well taken cared of and at the same time look old-ish like a rehab facility. They also blended the look and feel to House's deeper issues aside from his Vicodin dilemma. I made a previous post showing this transformation of Mayfield on video.
At the end of the season premiere, House will leave the institution but he will not be ready to go back to his apartment. So here, we can guess that he might go straight to Wilson and spend time there. We know from previous readings here that he will live with Wilson right?
According to Cassells, House's apartment was full of medical stuff and trinkets that are mostly the concept of Hugh Laurie himself. Aside from this, he revealed that our Dr. House is also into cooking and this will only manifest in the next episodes to come. Music as we know is also a part of his life. This explains the banjo and piano included in the setup of his apartment.
